Line up the sky

Phone compasses are often off by a few degrees. Two quick steps usually fix it:

Calibrate the compassWave your phone in a figure 8, three or four times, turning your wrist as you go. Do it again if the sky starts to drift. Magnets (cases, car mounts) and metal nearby throw it off.
Point at the Sun or the MoonKeep it near the middle of the picture: the app finds it and fine-tunes the compass by itself. A green "Compass aligned" badge appears. At night the Moon needs a dark sky around it, so lamps and lit windows are ignored. Never look at the Sun directly.
